Sown & Sewn by Set Free

Sown & Sewn by Set Free is more than a clothing line. It’s a tangible expression of freedom, dignity, and restored purpose. Created by young women rescued from slavery, now rebuilding their lives, the collection reflects both exceptional craftsmanship and a deeply meaningful story.

The name Sown & Sewn is inspired by Scripture in Matthew 13, where seed sown on good soil grows and produces a harvest. It reflects both the work of careful stitching and the deeper transformation taking place: lives being restored, purpose being planted, and something beautiful growing from what was once broken.

Each dress is thoughtfully made through Set Free’s vocational tailoring program, where survivors are equipped with real, employable skills that allow them to step into independence. What emerges is not only beautiful design, but clothing that carries lasting impact.

Priced at $136, every piece represents one month of holistic care for two rescued children living on the Set Free campus.

A Runway with Purpose: Greenville: A Night of Fashion

Sown & Sewn recently made its debut at Greenville: A Night of Fashion, where Set Free was honored to serve as the nonprofit beneficiary of the event.

The runway became more than a showcase of style—it became a platform for storytelling. Each look represented a journey from exploitation to opportunity, offering attendees a glimpse into the lives and futures being rebuilt through Set Free’s work.

As the nonprofit partner, Set Free had the opportunity to share its mission with the Greenville community while introducing a collection that embodies that mission in a visible, tangible way. The evening brought together fashion and purpose, demonstrating how creative industries can play a meaningful role in global impact.

From Rescue to a Future of Independence

Set Free doesn’t just rescue children. We prepare them to thrive.

As rescued children grow into young adults, vocational training becomes a central focus. Through partnerships with local businesses and technical schools, thousands of youth are equipped with practical skills that allow them to live independently and with dignity. This long-term investment is what transforms rescue into restoration, ensuring that each individual has the opportunity to build a stable and self-sufficient future.

The Impact of Tailoring

One of the most significant expressions of this work is the tailoring program.

To date, 5,224 rescued youth have been trained and employed in tailoring, gaining skills that provide both creative fulfillment and economic stability. For many, tailoring becomes more than a profession. It becomes a pathway to confidence, identity, and renewed purpose.

Sown & Sewn is a direct extension of this program, elevating their work from local production to a global platform where their talent can be recognized and valued.

Wella: Everyday Products with Lasting Impact

In addition to Sown & Sewn, the same artisans also create Wella, a line of handcrafted elephants that have long supported Set Free’s mission.

Wella elephants are available on Set Free's website. You'll also see them at craft fairs and events in the Upstate area or on Christmas trees during the holidays at local businesses. They provide sustainable income for the young women who create them while helping fund ongoing care for rescued children.

Together, Wella and Sown & Sewn represent a holistic approach to empowerment by meeting immediate needs while building long-term opportunity.

This is not fast fashion. It is fashion rooted in purpose, designed to make an impact that extends far beyond what is worn.
