When we think of giving, our minds often jump to financial donations. While monetary gifts are incredibly valuable to charities and causes, giving encompasses so much more. It’s about sharing our time, talents, and resources to make a positive impact on the world around us. Whether you donate financially or volunteer your skills, giving is a powerful act that not only helps others but also enriches your own life.
Did you know that research has shown a multitude of benefits linked to generosity? Giving isn’t just good for the soul; it’s good for your health and overall well-being.
Research has shown that spending money on others actually makes us happier than spending it on ourselves. Giving away charitable donations activates regions in our brains associated with pleasure and social connectedness. The endorphins that release when we give to others results in a positive feeling called the “helpers high” – basically, we are wired to enjoy helping others!
Chronic stress is linked to numerous health issues such as increased blood pressure and shorter life span. Giving helps release pent up stress, leading to improved physical health!
The positive social interactions we have when we join forces to reach a common goal (or make a common difference) are beneficial for our mental and physical health. We feel closer to and more trusting of the people we give to, connecting us to one another, while we make a difference together!
When we give, it often affects more than the initial recipient of our donation. Rather, when others see our generosity, they are inspired to give later, even to other causes and groups. As the chain reaction continues and grows, just one individual could end up impacting dozens, or even hundreds.
When giving to causes and organizations that we believe in, our gratitude for the work they are doing overflows into our lives and communities. Cultivating gratitude in our lives leads to overall better wellbeing and a more positive outlook on life. Gratitude is central to our happiness and social connections.
Everyone has unique gifts and passions. Embrace giving in a way that aligns with your own values and resources. Give generously, but also give thoughtfully. As you’ve been blessed, extend those blessings to others.
Your contributions, no matter how big or small, have the power to transform lives. Did you know that a mere $25 can provide clean water for family of five in India? This isn’t meant to guilt you, but rather to illustrate the incredible impact your generosity can have on those in need.
Giving to the local church and/or ministries in your area is a wonderful place to start! Find out what causes and issues you are passionate about and find ways to give and serve in the areas you feel led to be part of!
At Set Free Alliance like to think of ourselves as an evangelical organization that happens to do humanitarian work. It is by meeting basic human needs of clean water and freedom from enslavement that the light and love of Jesus is able to reach into the darkest corners of the world.
Whether it is hosting mobile medical clinics, rescuing children from slavery, reuniting them with their families, or providing clean water – everything we do is for the glory of God. It is our way of making the love of Jesus real in this broken world. And these simple acts of love open the doors for our pastor partners to share stories of faith, shine light in the darkness, and make disciples of Christ.
